Week in Review 8/28

This week we had a only 4 days of school since we went to Disneyland on Tuesday. We were still able to get a lot accomplished and had fun doing it. Here are some highlights from our week.

In history Audrey learned about Captain John Smith and how he befriended and Indian by showing him how to use a pocket compass. We made a life size compass on the driveway and labeled it with index cards.

In science we did an experiment to find out what causes the seashore to change over time. We created wind, rain, and waves to see the different affects they had on the sand.

Today we read about Henry Hudson and learned about the River that is named after him. This is a history activity she did to help her see the different parts of a river, including the source, the mouth, the riverbed, and the riverbank.

Nathan is continuing to do well in school, but like any 5 year old boy he would rather play legos than do school work. In order to hold his attention I have to keep his activities fun and brief. Since he is only in Kindergarten I am able to do that. Here is an experiment he did today in science where he had to use his sense of smell.

Here is a drawing he did of himself being happy and of Granny Fox being angry. Granny Fox is a character from "Reddy Fox" which is the book I am reading to him right now.

I read this book to Audrey when she was in kindergarten and she liked it very much. I think both of us are enjoying it even more the second time around. :)

Next week we will finish up Unit 3 in both programs and we are looking forward to what the next Unit will hold. Have a great weekend!! :)

And I get a glimpse, too! ;-)

Isn't it funny how different kids are, though...
Katie is not liking Reddy Fox at all. She moans when I pull that book out - LOL.
