We had a great week of school this week and I just wanted to share some highlights with you. Last Friday we finished reading A Lion to Guard Us and we enjoyed it very much. The Story Time section of Beyond is set up so our read-alouds all come from a different genre of literature. We began the year with Heller Keller (Biography), and the book we just finished fell into the Adventure category. This time around the genre is Historical Fiction, so we began reading Little House in the Big Woods. Audrey is really enjoying it so far, but I got a little bit queasy when it described Butchering Day in such great detail. I'm sorry, but I could have gone my whole life without knowing how you make head cheese. Blech!!!
Anyway, in history we are learning about the Pilgrims sailing on the Mayflower. This week they finally landed in the United States and are in the process of exploring the New World. Here is a shot of Audrey and the Mayflower she made.
Audrey is continuing to do well with the 3 R's, but she looks forward to doing more fun things like Show & Tell.
This week the poem we studied was Maker of Heaven and Earth. Audrey and I already knew most of the words to it because it is the lyrics from the hymn "All Things Bright and Beautiful." I had a great time singing the words to her each day, but today Audrey asked me to please read it and not sing it. LOL! Here is the drawing she made to go with the poem.
Our bible lesson today was about Nehemiah and the Israelites rebuilding the wall in Jerusalem. The activity that went with it was for the kids to build the wall and for me to try and tear it down.
We had a lot of fun with this and eventually they got their wall built. :)
I also introduced nature studies to Audrey this week and she loved the idea. We each have our own Nature Journal and are having fun drawing and writing about what we see in nature. I will try and post some pictures of this next week.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! God bless!

Oh cool, we just started Little House in the Big Woods this week too! Infact, today is the day we read aloud about the "cheese". The looks on my kids' faces were priceless LOL. We will begin chapter 2 Monday. I love the colorful pictures in these books! We are going to read through all 4 of the books though since they aren't part of our curriculum, just for fun :) Have a blessed weekend!
p.s. thanks for the tip on Artistry products, think I'll give them a try ;)
That does sound like a great week.
My boys and I loved reading the Little House Books. (I didn't remember about the head "cheese" though.) Thank goodness.;)
I remember being amazed at all of the chores that Ma and Pa had to do just to survive, and I got tickled at what Laura and Mary did for "fun" in comparison to what our kids do today for "fun."
Tell Audrey, "Nice job!" on her Mayflower.:)
God Bless,
Amy:)
P.S. My boys used to ask me to please "stop" singing songs with them too.;)
Dearest Gina,
Here I sit at home not feeling very well and I log on to your blog and it brightens my day. It makes me laugh, it makes me cry (with happiness).
Love,
Mom
P.S. Don't feel to bad about the singing thing...my friends have been saying that to me for years! I keep singing, just not quite so loud.
Sounds like a fun week especially the head cheese. mmmmm! LOL
What a great week of learning! You do so many hands on things, I love it!
Is the Beyond you are talking about FIAR or Heart of Dakota?
Just wondering....
Hope you and your family have a wonderful weekend : )
