Nature Study

In my previous post I mentioned that I incorporated nature studies into our school day this week. I read about this in the Charlotte Mason Companion and it sounded like a good idea. Audrey was totally on board with it and was excited to get started. We began by drawing a rose and a bird of paradise from our front yard. We then moved to the backyard to see what we could find. Here is a shot of the kids coloring their masterpieces.

You may be wondering why they are sitting on the trampoline....there are actually two reasons.

1) Gunther and

2) Gretchen

Our two faithful and loving German Shepherds can be a bit of a nuisance, so we sat on the trampoline to avoid being licked to death. :)

Once we were settled in our spot we decided to draw a picture of the Mexican sage bush we have in our yard. Here is a photo of what it looks like.....

.....and here is Audrey's rendition of it.

For our next specimen we chose these orange flowers.

Since I did not know what they were called, I had Audrey just label them as "flowers".

I think she did pretty good for her first attempt at capturing what she saw. She is already a better artist than me at 6 years old. :)

I hope you enjoyed out first attempt at studying nature. God bless!!

Audrey did a fantastic job!:)

I love the "outdoor classroom" too. Before Allie hurt herself, she would always jump up on the couch with Daniel when he was doing schoolwork, and for some reason, she loved to lick him during reading class. Sometimes she would get to licking him so much, that he would get tickled when he was reading, and he would have to start over again.;)

Audrey and Nathan will always have such fond memories of doing these nature studies. Children love to be outdoors so much!

God Bless,
Amy:)

They did a wonderful job! Your doggies are beautiful. My father and my uncle are German Sheppard lovers. My father is raising his second after our old friend, Rocky, pasted two years ago. I have a Rottweiller, who I named, Rocky, as a tribute to him.

GMs are wonderful dogs. Great friends and protectors. :)
