Week in Review 9/11/09

We only got school done 3 days this week due to Labor Day and a co-op playdate on Wednesday. Even though it was a short week we were able to get a lot of learning accomplished. I apologize in advance for the quality of the pictures. The flash on my camera decided to take a "dump", so I had to improvise.

Audrey finished up her study of Pocahontas and did an acrostic with her name. I helped her brainstorm, but she did all the writing herself.

She also did an Indian sand painting using salt that we dyed with food coloring. She had so much fun making it that Nathan decided he wanted to join in on the fun.

Here are their finished projects. This was a very fun, and very messy craft. I kept them long enough to take a good photo and then I had to pitch them. I am still sweeping colored sand up off the kitchen floor.

Audrey also finished up her study of the seashore in science. She really enjoyed learning about the ocean and the animals that live in it. Here is her notebook page from today showing examples of invertebrates and vertebrates.

Nathan is continuing to do well in school and only had one meltdown this week about not wanting to participate.:) Here he is working in his Do It Carefully book.

Today I read to Nathan about how God protected the Israelites from Pharaoh and his army at the Red Sea with a pillar of cloud. We did an activity using a cotton ball and water to learn about different types of clouds.

Next week we will have a 4 day school week and then we are going camping for a week. Yipee!!!

Yeh, I think the sand craft is going to happen on our back porch.

Sounds like a great week. I'm looking forward to getting back into our books next week. It drove me nuts to only do 2 days of school this week. I felt like a big slacker, but I was totally busy. Go figure.
