Week in Review

I did not post a week in review last week because it was kind of a crazy week. So this review will include some of the things we did last week as well. We began Unit 30 of Little Hearts yesterday which means we only have about 5 weeks of school left. YAY!! I have really enjoyed this program and everything I chose to put with it, but I am ready for a break. Anyway, for history in Little Hearts the last 2 weeks we have read about Francis Scott Key writing the Star-Spangled Banner, Davy Crockett, the Gold Rush, pioneers moving west, Abraham Lincoln, and Robert E. Lee. As we finish Unit 30 we will read more about the Civil War. I hope you all have a great weekend!

Math:
Here is a sample of what Audrey has been working on in Math. She only has about 20 lessons to go until we are done with the program for K.

Read-Alouds:
We started 2 new read-louds last week. Uncle Wiggily is the book scheduled in Little Hearts and Mr. Popper's Penguins is for the book club we have through our Co-op. So far we are enjoying both of them.

We got these extra read-alouds from the library because Audrey wanted to read about German Shepherds. I was not aware that the first guide dog used to assist a blind person was a German Shepherd.

Phonics/Reading: Using ETC for writing practice has been working out very well for us these last couple of weeks. Audrey's writing skills have improved a great deal since the beginning of the school year.

Today we worked on "ing" words in First Reader and Audrey had a lot of fun with it.

Science: This week and last week we learned about great apes. We read books about gorillas, orangutans, and chimpanzees. Here are a couple pictures Audrey colored and the narration she gave on each one. Next week we will begin a study of farm animals.

Looks like a great week! I thought I read that you learned about Grape Apes initially. LOL! Do you remember that cartoon? The giant purple gorilla? Ha! We loved Mr. Popper's Penguins too. It's such a fun story.
