I thought it would be fun to share a little about what we have been learning in history. This year we have been studying American history and we are currently reading an historical fiction book called Boys and Girls of Colonial Days. Audrey is enjoying this book and the activities in Beyond that go along with it.
A couple of weeks ago we read about Samuel Adams voting to let Peter Faneuil build a public hall in Boston. On top of Faneuil Hall a copper grasshopper was placed on the weather vane. For science that day we read about grasshoppers and then the kids made one out of peanut butter.
Here is Audrey's finished product.
Nathan just had fun playing with and eating his art. :)
Next we began learning about the Revolutionary War. We read a story about some Redcoats trampling the garden of one of the colonists, so the kids made their own herb gardens.
This week we have been reading about Betsy Ross and how she designed the American flag at the request of George Washington. In honor of this, the kids made their own edible flags out of graham crackers and frosting.
Here is Nathan's flag.
This one is Audrey's.
Of course they both enjoyed eating their flags after I took the pictures. :)
I am so thankful for our Heart of Dakota curriculum that has so many fun activities planned for the kids to do. I would never have thought of any of this stuff on my own. I am planning on sticking with it for next year, but that is a whole other post. :)

And silly me thought these were your ideas for activities! LOL! Thanks the Lord for hands on curricula. I love your little Indiana Jones at work there. Too cute!
I've said it before, but I'll say it again, "You make learning so much fun...and very, very tasty!" ;)
Your babies will remember these lessons so fondly.:)
Have a blessed day!

That is so neat! I am very excited to start LHFHG next fall!
What fun! Your littles are so blessed to have such a yummy lesson plan, and such a special teacher.
Wow, Gina--great ideas! This is precisely what I would be doing with my kids if they were young. Alas, my youngest is 10....so no frosting covered graham cracker flags, LOL.
Your kids are adorable, btw!
