Week in Review

This was our first full week back to school since we got back from the beach. Here are some of the highlights of our week.

In the history portion of Beyond we read about the pilgrims in Holland who were preparing to come to America to try and make a better life for their families. We did an activity to find out the most efficient way to load all the barrels and cargo onto the ships. First, Audrey rolled her barrel (a soup can) up the stairs and then she tried it using a ramp (a cookie sheet). She discovered that it was much easier to load the barrel using a ramp. As you can see, Nathan was gracious enough to let us use his pirate ship in our experiment.

We went back to co-op this week and one of the moms gave each of the kids a dinosaur name card. Nathan insisted on writing his name all by himself and I think it turned out pretty good. :)

Audrey's reading and writing has been improving by leaps and bounds in the past few weeks. Bob and I are amazed at what she is able to read and comprehend. It is almost like a switch went on in her mind and she just "gets" reading now. I am very thankful for this because teaching her to read was something that intimidated me when we began homeschooling.

We have been using A Reason for Handwriting this year and the first 6 weeks of the program were review on how to form your letters. This used to be one of Audrey's least favorite things to do and it was sometimes a struggle for us to get it done. The week before we left for vacation we finished the last of the review section. Yay!! The way the rest of program is laid out is to have the child work on one part of a bible verse each day, and then write the whole thing out at the end of the week. She looked at it on the first day and said, "I want to write it all out now.".....so I let her! Reason #326 to homeschool-if your child wants to work ahead, you can let them. :) Now she copies a verse a day and writing is one of her favorite things to do. She enjoys coloring the border of each page and putting it in her special copywork notebook. Here is a photo of one of the verses she copied this week.

Today in math the Beyond guide had us use stuffed animals to help learn ordinal numbers. Audrey was thrilled by this since she is a stuffed animal junkie. Here is a shot with her and her "babies".

Nathan thought this sounded like fun so he joined in as well. (Please excuse all the wires under Bob's desk.......It is like a space station back there. LOL!!)

I hope you enjoyed see some of what we did this week. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. God bless!

Hey Gina... question. Do you do any kind of PE with your kiddos at home? I'm feeling like I need to be more intentional about this with my kids... I'm looking for ideas. :)

Sounds like school is going very well for you and your babies.

Audrey's handwriting is beautiful, and just so you know, I am writing that verse down for myself too. I needed to hear that today. Tell Audrey thank you for me.;)

I love all of the fun ideas that you share. I told my hubby about that whale blubber project and several others that you have done, and he agreed with me. You are making learning fun and memorable!

Great job, Gina!
Tell Bob that Amy said you deserve a Venti Starbucks drink of your choice.;)

God Bless,
Amy:)

It's me again...;)

I just wanted to tell you something...God must be trying to make a point to me today, because after I wrote down Audrey's verse, I took a look at the verse of the day on my blog and guess what it was?....Proverbs 16:9.

Sigh.

I have always heard God repeats Himself to us for emphasis, so I am definitely paying attention.

God Bless,
Amy:)

I just want to tell you Gina, that I am so jealous of your homeschooling experiences. It was one of my dreams to homeschool my kids but life didn't play out that way and now I am a working mom...enjoy your experiences.I know the kids will have so many fond memories of your school lessons...God Bless you Gina..Love you
